Ornamental potential of Curcuma
The introduction of new species and new products
are of great importance to the growth and thrive
of the Brazilian floriculture industry, increasing the
assortment of available products, attending producers
and consumers demand for novelty, an important
component of marketing strategy, developing
competitivity and stimulating local and abroad trade.
This article consider the ornamental potential of the
genus Curcuma L. (Zingiberaceae) and, presents informations
about the botany, production and
postharvest and postproduction technology of some
curcuma species available nowadays at the international
flower market and, as well as, of species with
potential for being used as ornamental. Thus, the target
is to focus researchers and producers attention to
the genus potential and to contribute for the establishment
and development of these species production
at Brazil.
