POST-HARVEST EVALUATION OF Cyperus articulatus L.
The aims of this work were to verify the use of Cyperus articulatus L. stem as ornamental cut foliage and to develop
techniques of postharvest conservation for this species. Stem of C. articulatus can be used in substitution to others
ornamental species of the same genus . Tests by applying sucrose did not have effect on longevity. To maintain good
appearance of C. articulatus it is necessary to put the stems in water immediately after the harvest, followed by
dipping the basis of stems in pulsing solution containing 100 mg L-1 de GA3 for 24 hours. Spray with “carnauba”
(Copernicia prunifera) wax could be used at postharvest for this species, but the results with GA were better
compared to wax treatment.
