VEGETATIVE PROPAGATION AND ORNAMENTAL POTENTIAL OF A CREEPER VERBENA


Creeper Verbenas are easily found at wastelands and edges of ravines. They present leaves of dark green tone and violet inflorescences, possessing rusticity characteristics and adaptability that demonstrate their viability for landscape use. The objective of this article is to evaluate the vegetative propagation of a creeper plant from the family Verbenaceae and to demonstrate its ornamental value. The taxonomic classification was done, as well as the vegetative propagation through cuttings with the use of two substrates, one containing carbonized rice hull and another containing mineral soil, organic composition and carbonized rice hull (1+1+0,5) and also five doses of indolbutiric acid - AIB (0, 150, 300, 450 and 600 ppm), with evaluation of the percentage of rooting. The ornamental and landscaping potential of the rooted cuttings installed in landscape were evaluated through the height and diameter measurements of the plant, as well as the occurrence of weeds. The values obtained in the rooted cuttings showed that the dose of 600 ppm and the substrate containing mineral soil presented better results. In landscape use, the results demonstrated the fast growth of the rooted cuttings with intense stolons emission and covering of the ground in 105 days. That rustic species, Glandularia marrubioides (Cham.) Tronc. cf., presents high ornamental and landscaping potential for degraded and slope areas.
