Longevity of Epidendrum ibaguense Kunth inflorescences influenced by aminooxyacetic acid

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of ethylene inhibitor aminooxyacetic acid (AOA), applied as pulsing solution or sprayed on the longevity of Epidendrum ibaguense inflorescences. The stalks were harvested and immediately pulsed with 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 mM AOA for 6, 12, 18 and 24 hours or by spraying the inflorescences until full watering of the raceme. Regardless the time and concentration of the pulsing solution, AOA had no influence on the flower longevity. However, when sprayed, the AOA increased the longevity at about 26% compared to pulsed or control flowers, estimating 8 days of vase life when sprayed with 1.5 mM AOA.
