Development of calla lily plantlets submitted to pre-treatment with gibberellic acid and cultivated in
different substrates.
The propagation of calla lily through rhizomes recommends its immersion in a gibberellic
acid solution in order to stimulate the development of vigorous plantlets. The objective of this work was to
obtain calla lily plantlets propagated through rhizomes treated with gibberellic acid prior to planting and cultivated
in different substrates. The rhizomes were collected, selected and immersed in a solution with gibberellic acid
– GA3 (0, 50, 100 and 500 mg L-1) for 10 min. After treatment with gibberellic acid, the rhizomes were planted
in plastic bags containing the substrates: sand, carbonized rice husk or Plantmax®. The evaluations were
performed weekly through the observations of shoot emergency and 120 days after planting, leaf number, stem
diameter and plant height were evaluated. GA3 concentration that stimulated the best development of calla lily
was 83 mg L-1. Both carbonized rice husk and Plantmax® can be used for the propagation of calla lily. The use
of sand as substrate is not recommended.
