Bacteries of Erwinia genus causing soft rot on ornamentais in Brazil

The occurrence of bacteria causing soft rot on six species of commercial crops of ornamentais is described. Based on biochemical, physiological, cultural .and pathogenicity tests, the pathogens were characterized as Erwinia carotovora on dumb cane and orchid (Phalaenopsís), and Erwinia chrysanthemi on amaryllis, dumb cane, philodendron, orchids (Milton ia and Phalaenopsis) and African violet.
