OPEN CALL FOR PAPERS: TURFGRASS AND THE AGENDA 2030 FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Ornamental Horticulture is seeking submissions for a Call for Papers titled "Turfgrass and Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development". This issue seeks contributions that explore the most diverse areas of ornamental lawns, sports turf and sod production. Specifically, it searches for manuscripts that visualize advances, new techniques, technologies, processes and applications in the turf sector.
Turfgrasses, often perceived as mere green spaces in urban and rural environments, play a crucial role in promoting sustainability and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations Agenda 2030.
The Agenda 2030 emphasizes the need for sustainable agricultural and urban practices, and turfgrasses are no exception. The implementation of sustainable management techniques in lawns directly contributes to several SDGs, such as water management, terrestrial life, and sustainable cities and communities. Therefore, sustainable turf management is an essential strategy for creating a greener and healthier future, aligned with the global sustainable development goals.
The selection of the ideal species for turf establishment must consider several fundamental aspects specific to each situation, such as the purpose of planting, edaphoclimatic characteristics (climate and soil) of the region, topography, area exposure to sunlight (shading), soil moisture, among others.
All these aspects described will be explored at the IX SIGRA (Brazilian Congress about turfgrass) on October 9th and 10th, 2024, which aims to promote greater integration between the productive and academic sectors, and which has become the biggest event about turfgrasses in Brazil, and which after more than 20 years reaches its 9th edition in 2024 with the theme “turfgrass and the 2030 Agenda”, and which is a great partner in this special call for papers.
Thus, Ornamental Horticulture journal seeks high quality original scientific, technical or proofreading work. This special edition aims to provide a podium for the work of national and international experts to summarize recent achievements in these fields. Potential topics related to this special edition may include, but are not limited to, the ornamental lawns, sports turf and sod production.
